College baseball: Surry in Region 10 finals

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — After a wild weekend with three one-run games, Surry Community College’s baseball team is still alive in the double-elimination Region 1o Tournament.
Surry opened with a 4-3 win against Rockingham County that was keyed by strong pitching by Jalan Chambers (A.L. Brown) and a perfect day at the plate by Matthew Connolly (West Rowan), who launched another homer.
In a 7-6 loss to Camp Community College of Franklin, Va., Luke Graham (West Rowan) had two hits for Surry, while Elijah Palmer (West Rowan) drove in a run.
Surry survived 11-10 against Caldwell Community College in an elimination game.
Surry built an 11-3 lead behind the pitching of Mikey Beasley (Carson) and was able to hang on. Graham had two hits for the Knights.
Surry plays at noon on Monday against Camp and would have to beat Camp twice to win the tournament.
The winner of the tournament advances to regional play in Pittsburgh.
Caldwell’s JD James (South Rowan) had a big weekend, going 4-for-6 with two doubles and four runs scored.
