WILMINGTON — Fourth-seeded UNC Wilmington will play for the Coastal Athletic Association softball tournament championship on Saturday.
UNC Wilmington (32-20) beat fifth-seeded Elon 5-2 on Wednesday.
The Seahawks, who are hosting the tournament, won 2-1 on Thursday against top-seeded Campbell. The difference was a homer in the seventh inning by former West Rowan star Mary Sobataka.
On Friday, Sobataka had two hits as the Seahawks beat Delaware 5-0 in 11 innings.
UNC Wilmington will play Campbell or Delaware in the championship game and either team would have to beat UNC Wilmington twice to win the tournament.
Campbell and Delaware will complete a suspended game that is tied at 2-all in the fourth inning at noon on Saturday.
UNC Wilmington will play the winner at 2 p.m.
Sobataka had played in all 52 games for the Seahawks and is batting .252 with five homers and 29 RBIs.
Jentri Meadows, a Mooresville athlete who played for strong Rowan Little League teams, is usually the catcher for the Seahawks. She’s started 36 games and played in 40. She has three hits in the tournament.
