SALISBURY — Two people have been charged with trafficking after deputies said they discovered multiple controlled substances and firearms in a home while attempting to serve a warrant for failure to appear.

The incident began when deputies went to a home in the 2800 block of Agner Road to serve warrants for failure to appear on 36-year-old Bethany Morgan Peacock Lomax, according to reports. When deputies arrived, they made their way into the home and located Lomax and another man, identified as 35-year-old Jonathan Scott Whitley, in a back bedroom, said Captain Mark McDaniel, the public information officer for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputies reportedly noticed a loaded revolver on the bed before Whitley allegedly attempted to shut the door in their face. The deputies entered the bedroom and took both Whitley and Lomax into custody, said McDaniel. During the arrest, deputies also reportedly noticed a bong in the room and multiple rifles on a wall rack.

Deputies confirmed that Whitley was a felon and arrested him for felony possession of a firearm by a felon. Deputies then went to the magistrate’s office and took out search warrants for the house and Whitley’s vehicle parked in the driveway.

During a search of the house, deputies reportedly secured the firearms and discovered marijuana laced with fentanyl, methamphetamine, marijuana that was not laced, cocaine, digital scales and glass pipes. All of the evidence was tested and confirmed to be the suspected substances, according to McDaniel. Deputies then searched the vehicle and reportedly found more methamphetamine, scales and pipes.

Whitley was charged with felony trafficking in cocaine; felony trafficking in drugs; felony possession of a schedule VI controlled substance with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute; felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute; and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and Magistrate Mark Wilhelm ordered him to be held without bond.

Lomax was served with warrants for the five counts of failure to appear and was additionally charged with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute; felony trafficking in cocaine; felony trafficking in heroin or opium; felony possession of a schedule VI controlled substance with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute; and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Lomax was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and Magistrate Sean Reid ordered her to be held without bond.
