Dr. Chris Agner, longtime community physician, dies at 73

Dr. Chris Agner, a Rowan County native who followed in his father’s footsteps as a physician at Rowan Diagnostic Clinic, died Wednesday, May 15, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. He was 73.
Agner and his wife, Dianne, had five children and nine grandchildren. They were married for 54 years.
He was the oldest of seven children born to the late Dr. Roy Agner and Martha Withers Agner. He graduated from Davidson College and Duke Medical School before joining his father in practice in 1978.
“The changes in medicine during my career have been breathtaking,” he told the Post when he retired five years ago.
