Local connections
UNC — Junior center fielder Vance Honeycutt (Salisbury) is one of the country’s top players. He’s batting .319 with 22 homers, 58 RBIs, 77 runs scored and 28 steals.
Sophomore Cameron Padgett (East Rowan) has pitched in 14 games and is 1-0.
East Carolina — Sophomore Nathan Chrismon (South Rowan) had played in 30 games, mostly as a defensive replacement and pinch-runner in the late innings.
Junior Jake Hunter (East Rowan) has pitched in 14 games, with six starts, and has a 3-2 record.
High Point — Senior Charlie Klingler (East Rowan) usually mans left field for the Panthers. Klingler is batting .286 with six homers, 18 doubles and 45 RBIs.
Wake Forest — Freshman Haiden Leffew (South Rowan) has pitched in 19 games, with five starts. He has a 3-0 record.
NC State — Freshman Chance Mako (East Rowan) has pitched in two games.
Duke — Hitting coach Eric Tyler starred at South Rowan and East Carolina. Head coach Chris Pollard coached at Pfeiffer before moving on to App State. Success at App State led to coaching the B;lue Devils.
