West End LED street lighting temperature survey deadline is Friday

SALISBURY — The West End street lighting survey deadline is this Friday, June 21. Salisbury’s transportation department is testing two different LED color temperatures — 1300 and 1400 blocks of West Bank St. near the Miller Center and Hall Gym currently features a “cool white” light, while the 200 and 300 blocks of Lloyd St. area feature a “warmer” light.

In 2015, the transportation department changed the lighting in 39 blocks in the West End to bring under-lit areas up to current street lighting policy standards. Lighting again was a topic during the Byrne Criminal Justice Initiative (BCJI) community meetings.

“While we have had great interest in the street lighting survey based on the number of webpage visitors and news article views, our actual survey completion rate is at 19 percent,” said Wendy Brindle, the Salisbury transportation director. “It’s very important that we have the lighting preferences of the community before we upgrade key areas within the West End.”

Residents and visitors are encouraged to provide their input via a survey at westendpilot.startquestion.com.
