Landis Police arrest man following chase in excess of 100 mph

LANDIS — Last week, the Landis Police Department reportedly clocked an SUV going 105 mph on Old Beatty Ford Road. A pursuit followed that resulted in the SUV driver’s arrest.
According to a release from the Landis Police Department, Teddy L. Russell, is charged with felony flee to elude, speeding, reckless driving to endanger, driving while license revoked, driving while impaired and hit and run.
The release stated the patrol officer clocked the vehicle Russell was allegedly driving around 1 a.m. on June 17.
The officer reportedly initiated an unsuccessful traffic stop, resulting in the pursuit. Shortly afterward, Russell drove onto I-85 South, exiting the highway in Kannapolis.
The pursuit continued back into Landis, and only ended when the vehicle driven by Russell struck a tree on Smith Road in Enochville.
Russell was taken into custody, evaluated by EMS and then transported to the Rowan County Detention Center.
“The Landis Police Department would like to thank the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Highway Patrol for their assistance in apprehending Mr. Russell,” the LPD release stated.
