Camp Invention, a nationally recognized, nonprofit summer enrichment program, is coming to the Salisbury area.
On the week of July 8-12, the camp will be offered at North Hills Christian School, 2970 W. Innes St., Salisbury and on July 15-19, it will be held at West Rowan Elementary School, 480 Mimosa St., Cleveland.
More than 1,000 camp programs run nationwide in schools, community centers and other local facilities.
Founded in 1990, the camp has served more than 2.6 million children, and 309,000 teachers and leadership interns.
According to a release, Camp Invention is a program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and challenges children in grades K-6 to tap into their natural curiosity and use their creativity to solve problems. Through hands-on activities, the camp promotes STEM — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — learning; builds confidence, leadership, perseverance and resourcefulness; and encourages entrepreneurship — all in a fun and engaging environment.
Each year, the program features a new curriculum inspired by some of our nation’s most world-changing inventors — the National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductees. This year’s Illuminate program encourages children to be confident in their ideas and explore their innovativeness through hands-on activities.
Programs offered this year include Let’s Glow, Prototyping Studio, In the Game and Operation: HydroDrop.
Let’s Glow provides campers a chance to explore the science of light through illuminating inventions and the genetic code of glowing animals. Attendees will then engineer their own Glow Box displays in the biophysics lab.
In Prototyping Studio children star as contestants on a game show where they mold, shape and transform their ideas into amazing inventions.
In the Game offers campers the opportunity to create their own light-up game board, teaming up to tackle athletics, design, business and invention.
During Operation: HydroDrop children embark on a global operation to help solve water challenges around the world and explore the important role of water from rivers and oceans to the water in their own homes.
