Little League softball: Rowan teams still competing

Staff report

Pitt County Little League’s 12U softball team was rolling 7-0 against Johnston County after one inning in the state championship game when a lightning delay occurred in Huntersville on Tuesday night.

Assuming, Pitt County finishes that win off, Pitt County will advance directly to the Little League World Series as the host. The softball World Series will be played again this year in North Carolina in Greenville.

District 2 champ Rowan County lost to Pitt County 6-1 in its first game in the state tournament hosted by Lake Norman Little League, but still had a lot to play for as of Tuesday night.

If Rowan County can beat Rutherford County and Johnston County, Rowan County would represent North Carolina in the Southeast Regional Tournament. That tournament is held in Warner Robins, Ga. A win in the regional would still get Rowan to the World Series, but it’s a long, hard road.
