KANNAPOLIS — One person was injured and two adults were displaced by a kitchen fire in Kannapolis on Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to a home in the 500 block of Earley Street in eastern Kannapolis at approximately 9:40 a.m. in reference to a structure fire, said Kannapolis Assistant Fire Chief T.J. Cook. When they arrived, they found smoke showing from the building and a small fire in the kitchen.

Firefighters with the Kannapolis and Landis fire departments were able to contain the fire to the kitchen, said Cook. The kitchen suffered extensive damage while the rest of the building suffered smoke damage, said an official with the Red Cross. The fire was ruled under control approximately five minutes after firefighters originally arrived on scene.

One resident of the apartment suffered minor burn injuries and was treated on scene before being transported to the hospital for further treatment, said Cook.

The official said that the Red Cross is assisting two adult residents of the home who were displaced as a result of the damage.
