SALISBURY — One man was charged with taking indecent liberties with a child after deputies said that the eight-year-old victim told their family about the abuse.
Terence Nigel Bevan, 76, of Cleveland, was arrested on July 14 on suspicion of sexual abuse involving the child.
Deputies began to investigate after the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office received a report on May 15 of abuse involving a minor in a neighborhood near Cleveland, said Captain Mark McDaniel, the sheriff’s office public information officer.
During the investigation, deputies obtained evidence that led them to file charges of felony indecent liberties with children against Bevan, who reportedly was known to the victim, said McDaniel.
Bevan was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and given a $15,000 bond, which he posted the next day, said McDaniel.
He’s due in court on July 31.
