SALISBURY — A China Grove man was arrested on Tuesday after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted Rowan County deputies to his alleged possession of child pornography.
Detectives began an investigation into a China Grove resident after being notified by the NCMEC, through the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, that Microsoft Bing had reported possible child pornography in 39-year-old John Michael Dayvault’s possession, said Captain Mark McDaniel, the public information officer for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.
During the investigation, searches were conducted of Dayvault’s property and detectives discovered what they described as “child sex abuse material,” said McDaniel.
The sheriff’s office then reportedly obtained arrest warrants for Dayvault on two charges of felony third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He was located and arrested on Tuesday. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and given a $15,000 bond.
