CINCINNATI — Right-handed pitcher Chase Burns has signed for a record-breaking bonus.

The Cincinnati Reds signed the former Wake Forest hurler, the second pick in the recent MLB draft, on Thursday.

Burns, 21, will receive $9.25 million, sources said. That would surpass the $9.2 million last year’s first overall pick, pitcher Paul Skenes, received from the Pirates.

The slot bonus value for the No. 2 pick this year was a little higher at $9.79 million. The Reds’ top selection in 2023, No. 7 overall pick Rhett Lowder, signed for $5.7 million.

Burns was the first of this year’s first-round picks to sign.
