PARIS– Six current and former members of the Virginia women’s swimming team will be competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, being held July 27 through August 4 at the La Defense Arena in Paris, France.
Virginia head coach Todd DeSorbo (Salisbury) will be the head coach of the United States Olympic Team, in charge of coaching the women’s squad. This is his first time serving as head coach after being an assistant at Tokyo 2020.
Of the six Cavaliers headed to Paris, five will be swimming for DeSorbo on Team USA: three current Cavaliers (graduate student Alex Walsh, senior Gretchen Walsh and junior Emma Weber) and two recent alums (Paige Madden ’21 and Kate Douglass ’23). Junior Aimee Canny will be swimming for South Africa.
This is the second Olympic games for Canny, Douglass, Madden and Alex Walsh, all of whom competed in Tokyo. This is the first Olympics for Gretchen Walsh and Emma Weber.
This is the highest number of UVA swimmers that have competed in a single Olympic game and the fifth consecutive Olympics in which a Cavalier has competed.
Every event will stream live on Peacock. Select events will be broadcast on NBC networks.
