SALISBURY — The 2024 Novant Health Workplace Wellness Cup traveling trophy award has a new home for the year.

About midway through the 10th annual Dragon Boat Festival, Gary Blabon, past chair of the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce and president of Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, made the announcement that Power Curbers Companies was this year’s winner.

Prior to revealing the name of the winner, Blabon highlighted some details about the company, which, he said, has had a team in the festival for each of the event’s 10 year history.

Some of the information he shared included that Power Curbers encourages wellness within the organization and provides health insurance benefits with wellness visits covered for both employees and their families “through a local manufacturing company that introduced a new machine for customers that is environmentally friendly and protects the customers that they serve.”

He added that Power Curbers conducts health events each month, and that it purchased school supplies for each of their employees’ children at the beginning of the school year.

Accepting the award on behalf of the company were Enoc Cantero and Margaret Young.

“Thank you very much. It’s nice to represent Power Curbers each and every year here,” said Cantero. “It’s great to work at a company that truly cares about its employees.”

Young added that “it’s an honor to win this award and work for such a great company,” and further noted that taking care of their associates and families is “one of our four core principles.”

It was noted that the hospital has awarded the traveling trophy for the past eight years to recognize successful wellness programs in the community.

Power Curbers will now have its name added on the trophy along with past winners, which includes Hitachi Metals, Rowan County Government, the city of Salisbury, Healthy Rowan, Trinity Oaks, Food Lion, HealthCare Management Associates and Catawba College.
