ROWAN COUNTY — Two people are facing stolen motor vehicle charges following a high-speed chase that topped speeds of 115 miles per hour, according to Rowan County Sheriffs Office.

According to reports, deputies were looking for a vehicle early Wednesday morning that had been reported stolen out of Salisbury. At 1:35 a.m. a deputy spotted the vehicle at a traffic light on Hwy. 29 in China Grove. The car was in the left turn lane, and when the driver spotted the deputy, he reportedly turned left though the light was still red. The deputy turned on lights and sirens and tried to get the driver to stop.

The driver, Richard Kasey Webb, 35, refused to stop the vehicle. The deputy noted the car reached speeds “in excess of 115 mph” during the pursuit down the highway. When the driver tried to turn left on Corinth Church Drive in Mooresville, he was traveling too fast to make the turn and ran across the yard of the West Corinth Church, damaging the lawn. He then hit a speed bump, losing control of the vehicle momentarily. Eventually the driver hit a livestock fence and gate. The deputy tried to initiate a PIT maneuver to stop the car, but the driver managed to drive through the gate. At last the car became stuck in a wooded area, and after attempts to get the car moving again were unsuccessful, deputies were able to arrest both Webb and his passenger, 26-year-old Destiny Leigh Beaver.

Webb was charged with felony flee to elude, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, injury to real property, driving with a revoked license, resist/obstruct/delay of an officer, failure to maintain lane control, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop light. He was held without bond for a court appearance Thursday.

Reports say Beaver remained in the car with Webb through the night despite hearing him tell numerous people the car was stolen, and she was charged with possession of stolen vehicle. She was released on a $5,000 bond for a court appearance Thursday.
