Rowan Public Library

As Summer Reading adventures at Rowan Public Library come to a close, RPL would like to thank all who participated and joined in the fun adventures that began at your library. It seems like a long time since RPL hosted Summer Reading kickoff events at each of its branches. Since then, there have been scavenger hunts, storytimes, take away kits and numerous programs for all ages. How did you participate this summer? Did you register online so you could log reading hours for a chance to win prizes? Did you attend a free virtual author talk or participate in the Book Bites book club? Did you post a photo of a favorite travel destination on one of our “Where Have You Been” boards or record a story about your greatest adventure? Perhaps you joined the crowds contemplating or celebrating the existence of Bigfoot at RPL’s Headquarters.

Whether you brought your young children to a weekly storytime or to a ‘Big Show’ like Down to Earth Aerials or Carolina Raptors, or to other events such as the StarLab, Explore North Carolina map, or the Ladybug Release, we hope you cherish those summer memories. Teens had fun, too, by creating treasure maps and paracord bracelets, and playing Human Battleship. Adults weren’t left out either. They could attend a live concert, paint rocks, meet adoptable animals, swap recipes or make bucket list journals and adventure fund jars.

Adults have one more program this week at RPL Headquarters in Salisbury. On Saturday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m., attend a Genealogy Workshop: Organize Your Genealogy. This workshop will help you learn about software to organize data, photos, vital records, and other important documentation. Registration is encouraged. For more information or to register, visit online at  bit.ly/RPL_OrganizeGen or call 704-216-8232.

All of the children, teen and adult programs and events offered this summer would not have been possible without the support of our community partners and sponsors. Rowan Public Library gives a big thank you to Cheerwine, Civic Federal Credit Union, Corriher Sand & Stone, Duncan’s Produce Farmers Market, Food Lion, Glass Ingenuity, Mean Mug Coffee Company, Merle Norman Downtown, Ralph Baker’s Shoes, Rowan County Animal Services, Rowan County Parks & Recreation, Rowan County Soil & Water Conservation District, Rowan Wild, Salisbury Wine Shop and South Main Book Company.

Rowan Public Library gives a special thank you to the Friends of Rowan Public Library and individual sponsors: Phyllis Bodnar & Jim Tonseth, Barbara & Darryl Corriher, Friends of Rowan, Sandy Goodman in memory of Judy Goodman, Elaine Howle, Dottie & Geoffrey Hoy, Jayne Hubbard, Jennifer Hubbard & Steve Cobb, Randy Lassiter, Kay & Jesse McCartney, Dyke & Deborah Messinger, Cyndii Owen, and Alice & Fred Stanback.

As we say goodbye to Summer Reading 2024, thank you all for making this a summer to remember at Rowan Public Library. We hope you had as much fun as we did. Make sure to join us for all the exciting adventures and activities coming in September when RPL’s fall programs begin.
