Rowan County Sheriff’s Office reports

• A 77-year-old resident was robbed and assaulted in his home on McCanless Road just before 10 p.m. July 31. The victim was able to identify the man he said broke into his home through a back sunroom door. The homeowner had fallen asleep in his recliner when he became aware that someone was in the house. The victim told deputies the man grabbed pants and money from the couch and ran out the back door to a van. He said he managed to get into his motorized wheelchair and gave chase, and the robber hit the victim’s wheelchair with the van, knocking him to the ground and causing minor injuries. The victim was taken to Rowan Novant Medical Center for treatment. Deputies obtained a warrant and on Aug. 1, they arrested Timothy Burleyson, 55, and charged him with first-degree burglary, felony robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a person with disabilities. He was held without bond.

• A burglary reportedly occurred on Daugherty Road in China Grove between midnight July 30 and 11:27 a.m. July 31. The total estimated loss was $3,900.

• A theft from a motor vehicle reportedly occurred on McCoy Farm Road sometime between 5:31 p.m. Nov. 1, 2023 and 5:31 pm. July 30. Total estimated loss was $100.

• Paul Anthony Ewing, 47, was arrested July 31 and charged with habitual felon.

• Michael Daniel Diodato, 32, was arrested July 31 and charged with communicating threats.

• Michael Alexander Whaley, 69, was arrested July 31 and charged with assault on a female.

• Tyler Alexander Pate, 28, was arrested July 31 and charged with misdemeanor larceny.

• Joshua Scott Kelly, 39, was arrested July 31 and charged with felony breaking and entering a building.

• Alex Wesley Sadler, 28 was arrested July 31 and charged with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance.
