High school football: Scrimmages scheduled for Friday; Rowan Jamboree on Aug. 16

SALISBURY — Hurricane Debby is threatening to dump lots of rain on the area on Thursday and Friday, but football teams are still hopeful at this point of getting in controlled scrimmages against a variety of opponents.

Salisbury is scheduled to welcome Carson, Randleman and Bandys to Ludwig Stadium at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

A.L. Brown has a scrimmage set for 6 p.m. on Friday, with Robinson and Kings Mountain making the trip to Kannapolis.

North Rowan plans to scrimmage at Concord on Friday at 6 p.m.

West Rowan plans to scrimmage at West Cabarrus, along with Mount Pleasant and Parkwood.

East Rowan plans to participate in the Stanly County Jamboree on Friday and is scheduled to take on West Stanly at 6:30 p.m. and Albemarle at 8 p.m.

South Rowan plans a home scrimmage at 6 p.m. on Friday with Bishop McGuinness, Lake Norman Charter and West Davidson making the trip to South.

The sixth annual Rowan County Football Jamboree is scheduled for East Rowan on Aug. 16. This will complete a full circuit, with each county school serving as the host for the event.

All the Rowan football teams will be in action. Admission is $8.

There are two county matchups — Salisbury vs. West Rowan and Carson vs. North Rowan.  No teams scrimmage opponents they are scheduled to face in the regular season.

South Rowan tackles Christ the King (Huntersville) at 5 p.m.

West Rowan battles Salisbury at 6 p.m.

North Rowan scrimmages Carson at 7 p.m.

East Rowan tangles with Pine Lake Prep (Mooresville) at 8 p.m.
