The female driver of a vehicle that crashed on West Hwy. 152 just beyond the Landis and China Grove city limits Wednesday morning suffered serious injuries but is now listed in stable condition, according to officials.
Firefighters from the Atwell Fire Department, with support from Enochville and South Iredell, were called to the scene of a car crash just before 10 a.m., according to reports. The car had reportedly rolled over, back to front, and the driver was trapped in the vehicle.
The crash happened in the 6900 block of W. Hwy. 152 near Corriher Grange Road.
A witness said a good Samaritan stayed with the woman until firefighters arrived, comforting her and trying to keep her awake. It was reported she had been extricated by about 10:30 a.m., but she had lost consciousness and firefighters began CPR, transporting her to a nearby fire station where she was then transferred to an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Those efforts were effective and the driver is now stable and expected to make a full recovery.
The car came to rest just beyond a wooded area, beside a corn field, and the woman who lives just across the street said she and her husband have seen numerous accidents in the same stretch of road. Another witness who was behind the car said the right front tire of the woman’s car appeared to go off the roadway and may have contributed to loss of control, but that has not been confirmed with any officials.
