The driver of the vehicle involved in a single-car crash on Hwy. 152 West just outside of Landis and China Grove on Wednesday morning, Aug, 7, has died, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
Judy Diane Sells Finney, 80, of China Grove, reportedly went off the right side of the roadway and hit a culvert, causing her car to flip, coming to rest on the shoulder on its roof. She was taken to the Carolina Medical Center for treatment where she was initially listed in stable condition but apparently took a turn overnight and died Thursday morning about 4 a.m. Family members said Finney suffered a medical incident that caused her to lose control of the vehicle.
It was lightly raining at the time of the accident but state police said weather was not a factor in the accident
A good Samaritan traveling behind her stopped and stayed with Finney until emergency responders arrived.
“We want people to know how thankful we are to the fire department and EMTs who responded” and all who helped, said Finney’s granddaughter.
Finney worked for 31 years at Cannon Mills before moving to Brother’s Tire until her retirement. She was married for 60 years to Jerry Finney before his death in 2021.
Family described Finney as “a very crafty lady, enjoying scrapbooking, her flower gardens, and going to yard sales and thrift stores.”
Funeral services are scheduled for Aug. 13.
