Just over a week ago, a passenger in a car at the intersection of Majolica Road and Sherrills Ford Road was shot by someone in another car, according to Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies, and now officials are asking for the public’s help in identifying the shooter.
The victim was hit in the head, sustaining serious injuries, but deputies say the person is recovering.
The victim and the driver reported that on July 31 they left Lakewood Apartments just before 11:30 p.m. Someone driving a red Hyundai Sonata followed them, and when they reached the intersection, the Sonata pulled up beside them and an occupant fired shots into the car. The driver of the first car took the victim, a passenger in the car, to the hospital for treatment. Hospital officials then, according to protocol, notified deputies that they were treating a gunshot victim.
Deputies discovered the Sonata was previously reported stolen out of Salisbury, and officers found it around 2 a.m. on Aug. 2 in the 600 block of East Monroe Street, abandoned and on fire.
Anyone with information about the shooting, vehicle theft, or arson is asked to call Detective Chris Greer 704-216-8662 Lieutenant Ryan Barkley 704-216-8711 or Crime Stoppers 866-639-5245.
