Moore’s Chapel has big weekend ahead

Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church in Salisbury will have “Moore’s Chapel Day” on Sunday.
Celebrating 132 years, the pastor, Rev. Robert N. Kelley Jr., will deliver the morning message and the afternoon service will be held at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Rev. Dr. David Scott Cunningham, pastor of China Grove AME Zion Church in Pineville.
Cunningham was born in Charlotte, to the late Shirley Cunningham. He graduated from Providence High School in 1983 from the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system. He holds a bachelor’s degree of in business management, a master’s degree from Hood Theological Seminary and a doctorate of ministry from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
At 18, Cunningham began his journey with the AME Zion Church as the minister of music at Marvin AME Zion Church. Two years into his tenure, he accepted the call to the preaching ministry and continued as minister of music for 10 years.
Cunningham spent two years as a youth minister at a Baptist church in Charlotte before returning to Marvin in 2008 as minister of music. In 2010, he was re-admitted to the West Central North Carolina Conference on trial and admitted into full connection in June 2012, when he was ordained a deacon. He was appointed to pastor Crossroads AME Zion Church in Peachland. Later, he was ordained as an elder in the AME Zion Church and in June 2015 he was appointed to China Grove AME Zion Church.
Cunningham is married to Dr. Kindra Cochran Cunningham. They have two sons, Davion and Devin, and one grandson, D’Kree.
A fellowship dinner will be served in between the morning and afternoon services. A community day will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church.
