High school boys soccer roundup: Cougars win opener; Hornets tie

WELCOME — Carson’s boys soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 non-conference win at North Davidson on Monday.

Herixson Galindo and Anthony Medina Beckham scored for the Cougars.

Jeffrey Moreno and Joseph Little had the assists.

• Elias Vega scored to give Carson’s jayvees a 1-0 win over the Black Knights.

SALISBURY —  Salisbury battled to a scoreless tie with Northwest Cabarrus on Monday.

Finnegan Avery made six saves to preserve the shutout for the Hornets (2-0-1).

Salisbury got excellent play from Mohammed Jabateh, Johnathan Barrera and newcomers Lucas Webb, Luke Fowler and Alejandro Mercado Sanchez.

Next up for the Hornets is a county match at East Rowan on Wednesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
