College football: Home-heavy schedule for Livingstone

SALISBURY — The Livingstone College Blue Bears will play seven of their 10 games at home this season.

Livingstone opens  with three non-conference home games.  The opener will take place on Aug. 31 against University of Charleston, which is making a trip from West Virginia.

“I’m thrilled about getting our 2024 football season started,” head coach Sean Gilbert said.”We are starting off the season against University of Charleston, ranked 23rd in the nation.  Facing a ranked opponent  provides a valuable opportunity to gauge our growth and set expectations for the season ahead.”

The second game on Sept. 7 is against Virginia University of Lynchburg. The third game is against Allen University on Sep. 14.

The Blue Bears will then play two CIAA foes on the road — Bowie State University in Maryland on Sept. 21 and Lincoln University in Pennsylvania on Sept. 28.

 The second half of the schedule includes three straight home contests, beginning with a home game against Elizabeth City on Oct. 5.

Livingstone will host Fayetteville State for homecoming on Oct. 12.

On Oct. 19, the Blue Bears will face Winston-Salem State.

Livingstone travels to Shaw University on Nov. 2.

The  Senior Day final home game will be the Commemorative Classic against rival Johnson C. Smith on Nov. 9.
