KANNAPOLIS — A pedestrian succumbed to injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday night in Kannapolis.

In an email on Thursday, the Kannapolis director of communications, Annette Keller, said first responders were dispatched to the intersection of South Cannon Boulevard and Utah Street at approximately 8:40 p.m. in reference to a motor vehicle crash with injuries.

According to Keller, upon arrival, officers found of Rakeshkumar Contractor, 59, of Concord. Contractor was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

Reports indicated that the driver of a 2013 Hyundai Sonata was traveling north when Contractor “unexpectedly entered the roadway and was struck.”

The incident remains under investigation.
