The driver of a tractor-trailer traveling on Stirewalt Road Wednesday afternoon apparently took a curve a little too fast and clipped a utility pole.

The impact caused the pole and all connected wires to come down across the truck, trapping the driver inside for more than half an hour. Emergency crews and firefighters were able to untangle the wires once their power was turned off and free the driver, who suffered no injuries. The incident, which happened at about the same time that N.C. Hwy. 152 was closed around the Stirewalt Road intersection for investigation of explosive devices, also caused that road to be closed for a brief time.
