High school boys soccer roundup: Hornets roll vs MP; Cavs tie Cougars

SALISBURY — David Austin scored three goals as Salisbury’s boys soccer team won 5-0 against Mount Pleasant on Thursday.

The Hornets (5-0-1) also got goals from Sam Goodman, his first of the season, and from freshman Fletcher Busby, who scored the first of his career.

Hines Busby got the assist on his brother’s goal.

Kevin Reyes had two assists. Freshman Luke Fowler played through illness and registered his first career assist. He helped solidify the back line with Mohammed Jabateh out.

Finnegan Avery’s three saves, included stopping a PK.

Also playing in their first match of the season and doing well for the Hornets were Henry Austin, Johnathan Barrera, Isaac Rodriguez and Lucas Webb.

Next up for the Hornets is a home game with Statesville on Sept. 3 at 6 p.m.

SPENCER — Carson and North Rowan battled to a 1-all tie on Thursday.

 Carlos Moctezuma scored the Carson goal, with Julio Moctezuma Diche assisting.
