SALISBURY — The upcoming Rowan County Board of Commissioners meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday instead of the typical Monday to avoid conflicting with the Labor Day holiday.

The meeting will still be at the regularly-scheduled time of 3 p.m. It will be held at the Rowan County Administration building located at 130 W. Innes St. in Salisbury. The agenda items that will be discussed include:

  • The commissioners will consider a temporary-use permit application that would allow the Miller Family Farm on Weaver Road to operate a “vortex” attraction during its Maze of Terror event, scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays between Sept. 27 and Nov. 2. The permit is required because the attraction is a “non-farm use.” The attraction is required to be inspected annually by the North Carolina Department of Labor.
  • The commissioners will consider a family subdivision waiver that would allow for a fifth lot in a family subdivision off of Gheen Road. The application was submitted so that the owner could deed a new lot to his son.
  • The commissioners will hold a public hearing on the naming of an unnamed driveway located in the 1600 block of Gheen Road to Thistle Grove Road. The driveway is connected to the aforementioned family subdivision and is required to be named due to the new proposed structure.
  • The commissioners will hold a public hearing for grant applications to the North Carolina Public Transportation Division. The hearings are a required part of the applications and will allow the community an opportunity to comment on Rowan County’s transportation needs and the grant applications. The county is requesting a total of $908,056 and would be required to provide a $74,603 match.
