New officers join Kannapolis Police Department

KANNAPOLIS — Five new police officers — Matthew Caldwell, Sydney Pike, Denver Scaggs Jr., Caleb Tate and Bryce Young have joined the Kannapolis Police Department. All have been assigned to patrol squads and will receive additional training by two experienced police officer mentors.

Matthew Caldwell graduated from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s BLET program. Caldwell is assigned to Patrol Squad C. He is a graduate of East Rowan High School and holds an associate’s degree in applied science in criminal justice technology from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and a bachelor’s degree criminal justice from Appalachian State University.

He is the son of Kenneth and Diane Caldwell of Granite Quarry.

Pike is assigned to Patrol Squad D. He also graduated from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s BLET program. Pike is a graduate of McDowell High School and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in marketing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

He is married to Morgan, and is the son of Anna Anderson of Marion and Brian Pike of Hendersonville.

Scaggs is assigned to Patrol Squad B. He graduated from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s BLET program. Scaggs is a graduate of A.L. Brown High School and studied information technology at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.

He is the son of Denver and Pam Scaggs of Kannapolis.

Tate is assigned to Patrol Squad B. He graduated from Rowan Cabarrus-Community College’s BLET program. Tate is a graduate of Eastern Alamance High School and studied criminal justice and political science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

He is engaged to Emily and is the son of Melvin and Melissa Rose of Graham.

Young is assigned to Patrol Squad D. He graduated from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s BLET program.

Young is a graduate of Radford High School in Virginia. He is a cum laude graduate from New River Community College with an associate’s degree of applied science with a major in political science. He is also a cum laude graduate from Liberty University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

He is the son of Michael and Caroline Young of Huntersville.
