SALISBURY — Livingstone’s football team expects to even its record on Saturday night.

The Blue Bears (0-1) are at home against Virginia University-Lynchurg (VUL), a small HBCU school, at 6 p.m. Teams normally schedule the Dragons with the idea of getting a victory.

Wagner doesn’t win a lot of football games. Wagner opened with VUL last week and won 46-7, its first triumph in an opener since 2018. Wagner scored on its second snap from scrimmage and rolled from there.

The Dragons did win twice last season. Livingstone won four times.

Livingstone is an 8-point favorite to douse the Dragons, according to the Massey Ratings.

Livingstone was beaten soundly by University of Charleston in its first game. Charleston is ranked, a defending conference champ and a 2023 playoff team, so Livingstone was supposed to lose that one. But the Blue Bears weren’t as competitive as they hoped to be. They were down 38-0 when they scored with a little over a minute to go to lose 38-7.

But it’s a long season and Livingstone has a ton of home games. Saturday night’s game will be the second of seven at Alumni Memorial Stadium.
