High school girls golf: East edges South for 2nd in SPC match

SALISBURY — East Rowan and South Rowan competed well in a South Piedmont Conference girls golf match played at McCanless on Thursday.
Lake Norman Charter won the match. The Knights shot 123. Medalist Caitlin Frisch led the way for LNC, shooting 40.
East shot 134 (top three scores) and finished 11 shots back of the Knights for second place. East edged South by one shot.
Kaley Pfister shot 41 and tied for second. Jaelyn Earnhardt shot 46 to tie for eighth. Izzy Stepp was in a tie for 10th at 47.
South played its best round of the season.
Ava Blume shot 42 and tied for fourth. Sara Culbert tied for eighth at 46. RaElla Smokstad shot 47 and tied for 10th.
East’s Cailey Ludwig shot 49, while Ava Alderman shot 50.
Margo Maples shot 49 for South. Sawyer Sherrill shot 55.
Caron was fifth in the team scoring at 155. Emma Carpenter (51), Ava Catlett (51) and Miley Benfield (53) were the Carson scorers.
West Rowan shot 175 for sixth place.
