SALISBURY — Livingstone’s football team wore down Virginia University at Lynchburg on Saturday night and used three fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull away.

Lightly regarded VUL (0-2) hung in there with the Blue Bears (1-1) for a long time at Alumni Memorial Stadium. Livingstone led 16-9 in the fourth quarter after VUL scored its lone touchdown on a 5-yard pass play, but the Blue Bears took charge after that.

Livingstone scored first on a 9-yard run by Chris Brown, but VUL blocked the PAT kick and was awarded two points for returning it all the way.

Jason Zapata’s 20-yard field goal gave the Blue Bears a 9-2 edge.

Livingstone made it 16-2 when Brandon Cannella connected with Greg Thomas for a 40-yard touchdown in the second quarter. That was the score at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, VUL broke through for its touchdown, but that was a wakeup call for the Blue Bears. Christopher Garrett’s 35-yard touchdown pass to Angel Carrillo pushed the lead to 23-9.

Then Livingstone tacked on two short TD runs, with former Salisbury star JyMikaah Wells spinning into the end zone for the score that made it 30-9.

Mohammed Nyangamukenga barged into the end zone for the final one.

Livingstone will home for the third straight week next Saturday, taking on non-conference foe Allen.
