One killed, one injured in shooting Sunday night

A teenager has died and another individual was injured in a shooting on Oak Mountain Road about 9 p.m. Sunday night, according to officials.

Locke Fire Department and Rowan County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a shooting to find one victim still on scene with a gunshot wound to the chest. Officials were then notified a second gunshot victim had been taken by a vehicle from the scene to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

Officials said there was a large crowd at an outdoor event center at the time of the shooting for a fundraising event, and some bystanders were offering first aid to the victim at the scene. A deputy who is a retired firefighter and EMT also offered emergency first aid until paramedics arrived and the victim was airlifted to Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

Investigators called for a light tower from fire departments to assist in the investigation of the scene.

This is still an active and ongoing investigation, and investigators are working to identify the shooter in this incident.
