High school girls tennis roundup: Hornets, Mustangs win

Salisbury has won 21 straight Central Carolina Conference championships in girls tennis and the Hornets are well on their way to making it 22 in a row.

Salisbury breezed 9-0 against North Rowan on Monday.

Singles winners for the Hornets (7-1, 5-0) were Lucy Barr, Meredith Williams, Addison Griffith, Lola Koontz, Anna Kate Goodman and Gabriella Fatovic.

Barr/Williams, Koontz/Goodman and Griffith/Fatovic won in doubles.

Salisbury won’t have any more matches this week.

CHINA GROVE —Carson lost to Northwest 7-2 in South Piedmont Conference tennis on Monday.

The Trojans are one of the top teams in the league.

Allie Martin/Maggie Cooper won at No. 1 doubles for the Cougars (3-6, 2-6), while Sophie Lipe/Caylee Sheets won at No. 2 doubles.

Martin lost a close match at No. 1 singles on a third-set tiebreaker.

CONCORD — East Rowan got its second win of the season by beating Robinson 6-3 on Monday.

Both of the Mustangs’ wins have come against the Bulldogs.

Jaylen Jones, Katelyn Overcash, Mady Morris and Carolina Quick were singles winners for the Mustangs.

Jones/Overcash won at No. 1 doubles, while Morris/Quick won at No. 2 doubles.
