High school boys soccer: Hornets top West on Thursday

MOUNT ULLA — Salisbury won 3-0 at West Rowan in a non-conference soccer match played on Thursday.

Joel Suarez scored the tiebreaking goal for the Hornets (8-0-2) and was credited with his second game-winner of the season.

David Austin and Hines Busby scored the other goals for Salisbury. Busby also had an assist.

Salisbury’s back line of Sam Goodman, Muhammed Jabateh, Johnathan Barrera, Henry Austin and keeper Finnegan Avery held the shutout.

Salisbury also got good play from Isaac Rodriguez, Danny Castillo and Samuel Fatovic.

“I was proud of the guys,” Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said. “Both teams were very amped to play and there was a lot of physical play. We maintained our composure and competed for the third time this week.”

Next up for the Hornets is a return to Central Carolina Conference action on Monday against West Davidson. Game time is 6 p.m.

West is 1-7-1. The Falcons travel to South Piedmont Conference opponent Lake Norman Charter on Monday.
