High school cross country: Carson runners 1-2 in major meet

MISENHEIMER — Carson’s Eric Gillis and Jorge Clemente-Garcia finished 1-2 in Saturday’s Pfeiffer Invitational, a meet that attracted a large number of teams and athletes.

Gills ran 15;56, while Clemente-Garcia was clocked in 16:02.

Chance Simmons was the third Cougar scorer. He was 63rd in 18:20. Carson placed 14th in the team scoring.

Providence Day won the meet.

Luke Henson was 27th in 17:28 and Jonathan Medina was 29th in 17:31 to lead West Rowan to an 11th-place finish.

Logan Keasler ran 17:26 for A.L. Brown. He was 26th and led the Wonders to a 16th-place finish in the team scoring.

Gray Stone’s Layne Higgins was 21st in 17:26.

Jaden Eudy ran 18:54 and was the top runner for East Rowan. The Mustangs were 24th.

Charlotte Catholic won the girls meet.

Carson’s girls placed 12th. They were led by Julia Burleson (48th, 22:32) and Emily Landaverde (49th, 22:34).

East Rowan’s girls were 24th.
