SALISBURY — The Walk for Heroes will have the annual event on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. in Salisbury City Park at 316 Lake Dr., Salisbury.

Veterans, first responders, dispatchers and front-line medical professionals will be honored. Those who gave it all will be remembered.

Personal testimonies on healing from trauma and networking with community resources will occur.

Door prizes including a 3-night lodging at North Myrtle Beach will be provided. Rockie Lynne, a singer, song writer and veteran who served in Afghanistan, will perform. If it rains, the event will be held inside the Recreation Center at Salisbury City Park.

The Mission of the Walk for Heroes is to assist those at high risk of being exposed to trauma, with an emphasis being on veterans, first responders, dispatchers and front-line medical professionals. Helping them obtain evidence based, self-administered techniques to process and heal from traumatic experiences; and therefore, decrease the risk of developing PTSD and lowering their suicide rates.

According to Patti Lyerly, LCSW who has specialized in the treatment of PTSD for over 30 years, “Individuals who have successfully overcome the effects of trauma, those who are confronted by trauma and experts in traumatology need to work together to prepare the community so that together we can build a trauma resilient community.”

Chief P.J. Smith of Salisbury Police Department added, “This cause is near and dear to my heart due to my oldest son that struggled with PTSD after his service in the Army and deployment to Afghanistan. He lost the battle and committed suicide in 2018.”
