HIGH POINT — A police chase involving the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office ended in High Point when the suspect vehicle lost control and crashed. A Rowan County deputy crashed into the rear of a State Highway Patrol attempting to follow the suspect vehicle.

The incident ended at approximately 7 a.m. on Prospect Street in High Point, when a driver had led police on a chase from Concord lost control of his vehicle while attempting to turn from U.S. Highway 29 and traveled off of the roadway, according to a release from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

A trooper slowed down to follow the suspect vehicle off of the highway and was reportedly struck in the rear by a Rowan County deputy’s vehicle. The trooper was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and has since been released while the deputy was evaluated on scene by EMS and did not wish to be taken to the hospital.

The suspects then fled on foot and were not found during a subsequent search of the area. The release states that it is unknown if they sustained injuries. A release from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office states that the occupants of the fleeing vehicle were believed to have committed multiple armed carjackings in Concord.

The sheriff’s office joined the pursuit at approximately 5:30 a.m. after receiving an alert from communications that Concord officers were involved in a pursuit heading north on Interstate 85, according to the release from the sheriff’s office. A deputy reportedly attempted to deploy stop sticks but was unable to do so because of the high traffic flow at that time. The deputy then joined in the pursuit.
