High school soccer roundup: Hornets roll on road

DENTON — It was a night of firsts for Salisbury’s boys soccer team in Wednesday’s 9-0 romp at South Davidson.
There were lots of first career goals or first goals of the season for the Hornets (10-0-2, 3-0).
Freshman Alejandro Mercado Sanchez scored the first two goals of his career.
Freshman Luke Yang scored his first career goal.
Samuel Fatovic, Danny Castillo, Taki Cook and Sam Goodman scored their first goals of the season.
Steven Rivas, no stranger to goal-scoring, got one, and the Hornets benefited from an own-goal.
Castillo had the assist of the night on Yang’s goal.
David Austin and Isaac Rodriguez had two assists each. Also assisting were Henry Austin, Chris Diaz Alvarado and Lucas Webb.
“I’m proud of the guys,” SHS coach Matt Parrish said. “We were the epitome of a team tonight. Every player was dialed in on the success of his teammates and celebrated when each player got his moment. It was great to be a part of such a cohesive group. Diaz and Rodriguez were particularly unselfish on a level that a coach can really appreciate.”
Salisbury was scheduled to take on Concord, a tough 3A team, on Thursday.

CONCORD — Christopher Portillo’s hat trick sparked Central Cabarrus to a 4-1 South Piedmont Conference win against East Rowan on Wednesday.
George Nunez had 12 saves for the Mustangs. Patrick Sanchez scored the goal.

Alan Narvaez-Gonzalez scored both goals as Concord beat South Rowan 2-0 in Wednesday SPC action.
Colt Celetti made two saves for the Spiders.

North Rowan lost a 2-1 Central Carolina Conference matchup with East Davidson on Wednesday, but looked to bounce back against Thomasville on Thursday.
