EAST SPENCER — For the fourth year in a row, the annual Southern Soul Music Festival will bring live music, food and entertainment to Royal Giants Park in East Spencer.

“This is always a chance for the community to come together to relax and have a good time,” said Town Manager Michael Douglas.

Each year the town works to grow the event, he said, and this year is no exception. There will be live performances from Soultriii, Sumthin 4 Tha People Band, M3G LIVE Band and The Choyce Band, along with food and non-food vendors.

The event is held at the park at 200 Robinson Road, and this year there will be a mobile gaming truck with video games inside, bounce houses and a face painter, among the available activities.

Douglas said because October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, Novant Health’s mobile mammogram van will be on scene as well.

“The Southern Soul Music Festival is more than just a concert, it’s an experience,” Shawn Rush, East Spencer alderman, posted in a description of the event. “It’s a place where music lovers can come together to celebrate the rich history and culture of Southern soul. The music will make you feel alive, the food will satisfy your soul, and the atmosphere will leave you with memories that last a lifetime.”

East Spencer novelty items will be available for purchase to celebrate hometown (or visitor) pride, including cups, T-shirts and umbrellas among other items. There will be raffles for a variety of items including a television and a game system, and there will be gift card giveaways.

Rowan County Arts is providing a grant again this year, said Town Clerk ShaTaira Bailey, something the town appreciates.

“Their support has been a tremendous help and we are always grateful,” she said.

This year there are a number of sponsors, including platinum sponsor Tectonic Development.

The event is free and will run from noon until 8 p.m.
