Youth performing Aladdin Jr. at the Norvell Theater

SALISBURY — Aladdin Jr. has hit the stage and is being performed at the Norvell Theater, 135 E. Fisher St., Salisbury.

There are 25 youth in this Disney production with performances scheduled for Friday through Sunday until Oct. 6. Times are 7:30 p.m. for the Friday and Saturday shows and a 2:30 p.m. matinee for each of the Sunday performances.

Serving as director of the musical is Matt Webster, Krystal Stukes as choreographer, Dani Vanasse as the set designer and Beth Killion, who created an Arabian marketplace, as costumer. Mona Rey is serving as the stage manager, and in the role of music director is Caroline Stephenson.

It was noted in a release that it is common in children’s theater for entire families to lend a hand with the productions.

In addition to Caroline, her family has joined in to help as her husband Mark Stephenson has been involved in constructing the sets, son James helping to paint it, and daughter Emma is a member of the ensemble.

The Knight sisters, Adeline, Della and Layla, are also members of the ensemble.

Heidi Cross, the youngest in the cast at age six, and Daleiah Waters have parents working behind the scenes. Two youths, Elijah Miller and Issac Welch, who typically appear on stage, are running lights and sound on this particular show.

In the musical, the various roles are being performed by the following: Isaiah Walker as Aladdin; Paisley Rocco as Jasmine; Briana Bergamasco Martinez as the Genie; MaryEllen Rankin as Jafar; Arion Miller as the Sultan; Finley Driggers as Babkok and Dorie Clark as Kassim.

Rounding out the cast are Tayden Gray, Ava Branscum, Eliana Slade, Caroline West, Ethan Matthews, Gavin Harrison, Eva Marie Barnhardt, Adrianna Bobbitt, Levi Johnson, Adler Litaker, Lilly Newberry and June Tilley. 

During the production the youth will also perform some Disney lyrics.

Running time for the show, including an intermission, is one hour and 15 minutes. 

Auditions for their next performance, which will be the Wizard of Oz, is Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at 4:30 p.m. This is for ages 6-18.
