Staff report

San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave (North Rowan) will miss the rest of the regular season after suffering a triceps injury on Sunday.

Coach Kyle Shanahan broke the news to reporters on Monday that Hargrave sustained a torn triceps in the 27-24 loss to the L.A. Rams.

The injury will require surgery. Hargrave conceivably could return if there’s a deep playoff run, but it’s likely a season-ending injury.

“It’s a big loss and I thought he had his best game yesterday,” Shanahan said. “I thought he was a huge factor.”

The 31-year-old Hargrave signed with the 49ers in 2023, started 16 regular-season games and made the Pro Bowl.

He was a third-round pick out of South Carolina State by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2016. He played four years for the Steelers and four for the Philadelphia Eagles before signing with the 49ers.

He has 45.5 career sacks, 215 solo tackles and four forced fumbles.
