Staff report
SALISBURY — Livingstone’s football team will be favored to win on the road in Saturday’s CIAA game at Lincoln.
The Blue Bears (2-2, 0-1) are expected to win by four points, according to the Massey Ratings. It’s a long trip to Philadelphia and the Blue Bears are coming off a long trip, but on paper, the Blue Bears should win by more than four points.
Lincoln (0-3) has earned its underdog status by being the CIAA’s worst offensive team as well as its worst defensive team the first three weeks of the season. The Lions are averaging 9 points while allowing 40. That’s a tough combination to overcome.
In their last two outings, the Lions have been blown out by CIAA foes JC Smith (52-6) and Shaw (48-14).
The bottom line is the Blue Bears have a super chance to get back on track after last week’s 31-17 loss at Bowie State that included a lot of positives. Down 17-0 on the road, Livingstone fought back to 17-all.
Livingstone won 35-19 the last time it battled Lincoln in 2019. The Blue Bears also won in the sporadic series in 2018, 2013 and 21012.
The last time Lincoln beat Livingstone on a football field was in 2009 in Salisbury.
Kickoff on Saturday at Lions Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m. The chance of rain is going to be about 50 percent.
