Catawba College presents first concert of academic year

SALISBURY — Catawba College presents The Catawba Singers in their first concert of the 2024-2025 academic year on Sunday at 4 p.m. The free concert will take place in the Omwake-Dearborn Chapel and is open to the public.

“We Sing to the Universe” will feature inspiring choral selections focusing on the earth, the environment, sustainability, equity, diversion and inclusion.

Nearly every genre of music will be represented. The program will open with Barnwell’s “We Are One” and conclude with “Rhythm of Life” from Broadway’s “Sweet Charity.”

Other composers represented in the program include Frank Ticheli, Z. Randall Stroope, Robert Ray, Phil Wickham, Dolly Parton and Bob Dylan.

Additional selections will feature solos and duets performed by students and faculty of the Shuford School of Performing Arts.

The 60 voices of The Catawba Singers are directed by Dr. Phillip E. Burgess, Dean of the Shuford School of Performing Arts. Mr. Tyler Miller, a senior at Catawba, will accompany the concert.

Additional ensemble support will be provided by student musicians at Catawba College.
