Wind advisory affecting central North Carolina Friday

A wind advisory was issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 2:32 p.m. valid for Friday between midnight and 6 p.m. The advisory is for Person, Forsyth, Guilford, Alamance, Orange, Durham, Davidson, Randolph, Chatham, Wake, Johnston, Stanly, Montgomery, Moore, Lee, Harnett, Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Hoke, Cumberland and Sampson counties.

“Southeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected,” explains the NWS. “Winds will increase overnight, reaching their peak by mid/late morning. Winds will gradually weaken Friday evening.”

“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured outdoor objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and result in scattered power outages,” states the NWS. “Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution, especially if traveling Friday morning. Secure outdoor objects, as they may be blown around easily.”
