Kannapolis employee receives state award

KANNAPOLIS — The city of Kannapolis has announced that Doug Meyer has been awarded the prestigious North Carolina Waterworks Operators Association (NCWOA) A Surface Operator of the Year Award. This recognition celebrates Meyer’s contributions to the water treatment industry throughout his career serving Cabarrus and Rowan counties.
Meyer, recently joined the city of Kannapolis staff after working at the city of Concord for 24 years. He brings a wealth of experience to Kannapolis, having previously operated both the Hillgrove and Coddle Creek Water Treatment Plants. His expertise extends beyond plant operations, as he has also served as a lab technician and lab field tech. Meyer holds a surface, a distribution, and process control chemistry certifications, demonstrating his knowledge of water treatment processes.
As an Operator II at the City of Kannapolis Water Treatment Plant, Meyer will play a crucial role in mentoring and training staff.
“His passion for sharing knowledge and preparing operators for certification exams will be invaluable to the city,” said a release from the city. “His innovative approach to problem-solving and his commitment to continuous improvement have already led to advancements in lab equipment, distribution sampling, and training procedures.”
