CHINA GROVE — Carson lost 36-0 to Robinson in Monday’s South Piedmont Conference football game.

Robinson, eighth in the 3A West RPI rankings, put up 410 yards of offense, while shutting down the Cougars (2-3, 0-2).

The teams played a scoreless first quarter, but the Bulldogs (5-0, 3-0) were in control 22-0 at halftime.

Carson played without starting quarterback Griffin Barber, which limited the Cougars offense. Freshman Damo’n Broussard took the snaps. Carson had only 10 passing yards.

Trip Marcum rushed six times for 59 yards to lead Carson’s offense.

Carson had two bad snaps and two sacks and ended up netting only 53 rushing yards.

Carson’s defense came up with three turnovers, with Tanner Simpson and Christian Clowney intercepting passes and Jackson Earnhardt recovering a fumble.

Aury Greenfield, one of Robinson’s quarterbacks, had two rushing TDs. Ennis Stiles rushed for 105 yards and a TD. Brian Rowe’s two catches accounted for 85 yards.

Carson goes to Concord on Friday.

GRANITE QUARRY — Softball star Chloe Shank was named homecoming queen at halftime on Monday and had the best night for the East Rowan Mustangs.

East’s football team lost 48-0 to South Piedmont Conference opponent Northwest Cabarrus. It was not a surprising result. Northwest (4-1, 2-0) won its fourth straight under former Catawba receiver Eric Morman. East (0-5, 0-2) was shut out for the fourth straight game.

PJ Butler provided a highlight with an interception and a 40-yard return for the Mustangs. Butler also led East receivers with three catches for 23 yards.

QB Will Klingler threw for 66 yards and ran for 33 to provide most of East’s offense. He had a 16-yard run.

Bryson Ware had two tackles for loss and a sack. Krys Hernandez made eight tackles.

“We’ve gotten better the last few weeks, but the schedule has gotten harder,” East head coach Brian Flynn said. “We didn’t finish any drives, but the offense moved the ball some. The defense played well, at tines, but we had two bad snaps on punts and gave them some short fields.”

Northwest got four rushing touchdowns in the first half from Jarlon Drye, and Anderson Lee ran back the second-half kickoff for a touchdown to make it 34-0.

The schedule doesn’t get any friendlier for East on Friday. The Mustangs will take on Robinson, probably the best team in the SPC.

MOORESVILLE — A.L. Brown’s football team was introduced to Lake Nornan’s 6-foot-5 freshman quarterback Kaden Craft on Monday, and the Wonders don’t like him much.

Craft threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score, as the Wildcats overwhelmed the Wonders 42-2 in a Greater Metro Conference game.

Mozes Morris had two of Lake Norman’s four rushing TDs.

Lake Norman (4-1, 1-0) scored on its first four possessions to take a 28-0 lead and the Wonders never were able to get back into it.

A.L. Brown’s points came shortly before the end of the first half when Lake Norman was forced to punt for the first time and snapped the ball out of the end zone for a safety.

The Wonders (3-2, 1-1) will have a good chance to bounce back against Cox Mill on Friday.
