High school golf: South 2nd, Mustangs 3rd on Tuesday

KANNAPOLIS — Lake Norman Charter won another South Piedmont Conference girls golf match on Tuesday at Irish Creek.

The Knights shot 118 and had the top three individual golfers in Ava Palmer (37), Caitlyn Frisch (40) and Seehe Vera (41).

The drama was provided, as has been the case most of the season, with the battle for second place between South Rowan and East Rowan.

South had a good day and was second with 139. Ava Blume and RaElla Rockstad tied for fifth with 46s. Sara Culbert shot 47 for eighth, and Mago Maples was ninth with a 48.

East shot 142 for third. Jaelyn Earnhardt shot 45 to lead East and placed fourth individually. Kaley Pfister shot 46 and was in the tie for fifth. Cailey Ludwig was the third scorer for East. She shot 51 and tied for 11th.

Northwest Cabarrus was fourth at 163.

Golfers will gather at McCanless on Thursday for the Rowan County Championships. South and East are expected to battle again.
