SPENCER — David Austin recorded Salisbury’s first hat trick of the soccer season and led the Hornets to a 4-2 Central Carolina Conference win at rival North Rowan.
The Hornets (13-1-3, 6-0) finished their first circuit of the CCC undefeated. They hold a one-game lead over East Davidson.
Salisbury is seventh in the 2A West RPI rankings.
North (3-4-4, 2-3) is 22nd on the 1A West RPI list.
Hines Busby also scored for Salisbury on a side volley, with Sam Goodman assisting. Kevin Reyes assisted on one of Austin’s goals.
The Hornets built a 4-0 lead before North finished strong.
“I am proud of our guys,” SHS coach Matt Parrish said. “We haven’t played well the last two weeks. We haven’t practiced at all and were far below our standard earlier this week. Still, the players really responded to our instructions. We were composed, competed at a high level in a difficult environment and got the job done. I can’t ask for anything more.”
Next up for the Hornets is Thomasville at home on Monday. North is scheduled to play South Davidson.
